LGA or JFK from a Manhattan Hotel: Which Airport Car?

LGA from Manhattan is 30-50 minutes off-peak and 50-80 in the rush. JFK is 60-90 off-peak and 90-120 when the roads are full. The hotel handoff is the same. The highway is not.

An LGA or JFK limo from a Manhattan hotel is a different ride depending on which airport is printed on the ticket. LGA from Manhattan is 30-50 minutes off-peak and 50-80 in the rush. JFK is 60-90 off-peak and 90-120 when the roads are full.

The lobby handoff is the same either way. The highway is not.

Which LGA or JFK limo matches the ticket

Domestic short flights usually leave from LGA, and that is the shorter car from midtown. The Grand Central Parkway is the road, and it is the one that turns a quiet 30 minute ride into 50-80 when the evening rush is still on. If the flight is at 6:00 p.m., book the rush number, not the empty-highway number.

International long-haul usually leaves from JFK. That ride is the Van Wyck or the Belt Parkway. It is 60-90 minutes when the clock is kind and 90-120 when it is not.

An east-side hotel and a west-side hotel can both make JFK. The difference is which tunnel or bridge you start with, not a hidden faster road.

From an east-side hotel, the Queens-Midtown Tunnel is the usual first move toward either airport. From the west side, the driver may start through a downtown crossing instead. Ask which way you are starting. The minute band for that airport does not shrink because the hotel moved a few avenues.

What the desk needs to know

Give the hotel name, the hour, and whether the car should wait at the hotel curb or at the lobby door. A doorman who knows the car is coming will not send you to the wrong bay. Put the flight number on the reservation so a gate change does not leave the chauffeur at the wrong airport.

If the flight is actually out of Newark, say so. EWR is the usual airport for northern and central New Jersey, and from a Manhattan hotel the slow part is the Lincoln Tunnel or the Holland Tunnel. That is a different booking than LGA or JFK. Do not let the hotel assume the airport from the neighborhood.

Sedan or SUV at the door

A Cadillac Lyriq or a Mercedes S-Class fits 1-3 passengers and about 3 bags. A Chevy Suburban or a Cadillac Escalade fits up to 6 passengers and about 6 bags. A couple with two roll-aboards fits the sedan. A family, or anyone with a row of suitcases, needs the SUV or the trunk will not close.

  • Name the hotel, the pickup spot, and the hour.
  • Send the flight number and the airport on the ticket.
  • Count bags before you choose a sedan.
  • Say if a doorman should be told the car is coming.
  • Ask for the rush-hour band if the flight is in the late afternoon.

Morning departure versus evening departure

A morning JFK departure from the hotel still needs the drive plus about 2 hours at the airport for domestic, or about 3 hours for international. Off-peak, that drive is 60-90 minutes. This guide does not publish a matching extra-hour number for LGA, so build that airport time with the dispatcher instead of copying the JFK buffer.

An evening departure hits the rush band. LGA becomes 50-80 minutes. JFK becomes 90-120.

Leave the hotel on that number. GSALux runs airport transfers to both airports from Manhattan hotels, so the car you get is one of the six in the fleet, matched to the bags and the headcount.
