Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day, the Manhattan-to-Hamptons corridor is one of GSALux's busiest weekend routes. Most clients have a recurring summer pattern (Friday afternoon out, Sunday or Monday morning back), and the booking flow is built around it. Here's how to think about it.
Travel time and why Fridays matter
- Off-peak (weekday daytime): Manhattan to Southampton in 2.5-3 hours, East Hampton in 3-3.5 hours, Montauk in 3.5-4 hours.
- Friday afternoon (1-7 PM): add 1.5-2.5 hours on top of off-peak. Pre-Memorial Day, July 4, and Labor Day weekends are the worst.
- Friday evening (7-11 PM): traffic eases somewhat; often the smartest leave-time if your schedule allows.
- Saturday morning: usually fine.
- Sunday afternoon/evening: heavy westbound. Plan ahead.
- Monday morning (holiday Mondays): heavy westbound. Leave very early or very late.
Vehicle recommendations
- Couple with weekend bags: Cadillac Escalade. Comfortable for the longer ride, plenty of cargo room.
- Family of 4-6 with luggage: Chevrolet Suburban or Cadillac Escalade.
- Group of friends (6-10) for a share-house weekend: Sprinter Limo if it's a party vibe; Executive Sprinter if it's mixed company.
- Solo or pair traveling executive-style: Mercedes S-Class. Best ride for a long highway day.
How pricing is structured
Manhattan to the Hamptons is typically billed as a flat-rate point-to-point with a small surcharge for peak Friday and Sunday windows. The number depends on your exact destination town (Southampton is closer than Montauk), the vehicle class, and the day of the week. Call (201) 759-1958 with your travel dates and we'll quote each direction.
Alternatives we coordinate
Some clients prefer rail (LIRR or the Cannonball) for the trip out and a GSALux car for the return. We'll coordinate the inbound pickup at the East Hampton or Southampton train station. Others book private aviation into East Hampton (HTO) or Westhampton Gabreski (FOK) and we handle the ground transfer at both ends.
Summer-pattern booking
Clients who do the full summer often pre-book the same vehicle, same chauffeur, same Friday-out and Sunday-back time across every weekend in their pattern. We hold the vehicle and chauffeur on your schedule for the season. A single conversation with our account team in April locks the whole summer.
